A senior cricket writer for ESPNCricinfo just said this:
“In terms of his remarkable ability to stay at the top of the game for a long time, he surely deserves to be bracketed alongside the likes of Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Tom Brady,"
That senior cricket writer is English journalist, George Dobell.
George, George, George.
What you doing mate?
Surely it's time to hang up the pencils and keyboard if you're making those sorts of comparisons.
It did remind me of that time when Michael 'Pup' Clarke told Jimmy Anderson to face up for a broken fucken arm.
Ahhh, good times.
Mitchell Johnson steaming in and bowling absolute thunderbolts - Johnson and Anderson never really liked each other - did they?
Don't get me wrong, Jimmy Anderson is a quality bowler. But to be put in the same bracket as some of the all-time greats?
Haha, no, no, no.
Jimmy Anderson is not even the best bowler of all-time, he may not even be in the top 5, perhaps top 10.
Warne, McGrath, Muralitharan, Akram, Ambrose, Lillee, Walsh, Wagar, Kumble, Donald - there's been some good ones.
Anderson is in that bracket, but he's not near the top.
Yes, he gets a tick for longevity, 611 wickets from 158 matches - it's impressive.
But to be compared to Tom Brady for instance? Seriously.
Give it a break George.
