This Everest field is a bit crap isn't it?

The richest race on turf anywhere in the world. $15m in prize money.

I am finding the horses harder pick than a broken nose at the moment, so let me just address that elephant in the room.

Okay, move on.

But that aside, this Everest field has a fairly long tail to it. Doesn't it?

Let's break it down.

WINNING HOPES: Classique Legend, Behemoth, Gytrash & Libertini

It's one of those four and I'll be boxing them up in a first four. Just over a year ago, Libertini won a Silver Shadow and a Furious as an odds on pop. She then got beat in the Tea Rose by Funstar and Probabeel, before finishing third to Exceedance and Bivouac in the Coolmore Classic down the straight.

The form reads okay doesn't it?

Two weeks ago she showed that she's well and truly back on track, rattling off some stunning sectionals.

Classique Legend was strong off a wide run before Libertini flew down the outside and gave it a cold. Plenty of merit in the run of the big grey, he beat the rest fairly comfortably despite that wide passage throughout.

Gytrash might be the Redzel type of fairytale and can be versatile in his racing pattern which is a big tick.

The forgotten horse might be Behemoth. Dropping back to the 1200m after 2 Group 1 wins over 1400m, might be the perfect recipe in a fast run Everest?

MAYBE: Nature Strip, Trekking, Deprive & Tofane

What do you do with Nature Strip? No doubt has the ability and may well find the lead. Just hasn't been his preparation and whilst a chance, I can't see him winning.

The Godolphin pair, Trekking and emergency Deprive are capable of running on, maybe into some minor money whilst Tofane seemingly enjoys the Sydney way of going and last time at Randwick was beating Pierata in the All Aged Stakes.

CAN'T WIN: Santa Ana Lane, Bivouac, Eduardo, Dollar for Dollar, Haut Brion Her, Special Reward, Tactical Advantage & Standout

This years edition seems to have a long tail to it. I get the sense that Santa Ana Lane might be passed his best, that pains me to say because he's been good to me. Bivouac is capable but he seemed to have every chance first up? Eduardo, Dollar for Dollar and Haut Brion Her are just simply not up to it. The emergencies are also not in it, outside of Deprive.

Like any race, barriers are naturally going to make a big difference, if I was forced to have a bet prior, I think Behemoth @ $14 and Libertini $7.50 might be the two right now.

More later in the week.
