Sandown Race 9 – Danzdanzdance
The Melbourne Cup Carnival has come and gone for another year and the Australian horse racing scene will enter into a bit of a hangover period for the next few weeks. The horses that we have all come to know and love over the last few months will be heading into the paddock for a while to get ready for their Autumn preps.
It won’t be until the Summer racing season of Perth and Brisbane that racing will really pick up again. Which means that in the next few weeks, us punters have the opportunity to find some real good roughies that are marked at huge prices, despite the open nature of the races.
I believe I have found one of those roughies in the form of Binaisse trained Danzdanzdance at $31 to win and $7 to place. I have been riding her every run this prep and even though she has let me down, I believe that she has what it takes to steal a place and even a win if everything goes her way. Her last start at Mooney Valley, she got her foot stuck in the barrier and almost completely fell when jumping.
However, bravely, she recovered and ran a strong race, chasing down the pack and finishing 6th, after running her last furlong at cracking speed.
If she is able to run that well after a near devastating fall, she might just have that special something, despite what her statistics might suggest.
Watch that replay of her in this year’s Coolmore Legacy Stakes, in April. She ran an excellent third behind two absolute stars in Con Te Partiro and Funstar. Jumped well, sat just off the midfield, waited for her opportunity around the corner and went bang down the straight. She found her gap, hit it hard and maintained her 3rd spot quite easily.
With Glen Boss on board, I can’t see why this horse can’t achieve the same in a much lower quality field. She is a genuine Group 1 horse that has the turn of foot ability to steal the show and is listed at a price like $31, so I will be more than happy to give her one last go.
If she gets up, I’ll be the one doing a Danzdanz-dance in the middle of the TAB, that’s for sure.
It is a roughie so remember to stake small, and as always, gamble responsibly.
