The Mock Racing Club’s Saturday Shakedown 16/1/2021

We were able to jag a couple of winners last week and with the Magic Millions on the horizon, let’s get stuck straight in and discuss this week’s tips!

Best Bet at Rosehill

Race 9 – Private Eye - $2.70 Win

Whoever organised the Rosehill left the best till last in my opinion here with plenty of talent finishing off the day. Bold and Wild and Super Contender roll forward and beware of Starla, Smart Image and especially Private Eye storming home late. Could even be a cheeky trifecta chance punters. However, I can’t go past Private Eye. He has won its last 4 and I have backed him every single time. Can win again here and make it 5 on the trot for sure. He has excellent closing speed and will be storming home faster than the others, I expect a strong showing and hence, he is our best at Rosehill.

Best Bet at Flemington

Race 5 – Over Exposure - $2.50 Win

If you haven’t heard of Over Exposure, he is a McEvoy trained gelding that is third up here and ready to peak. The horse has better fitness than both Kentucky Breeze and Heavenly Emperor, the two other main chances in the race. Not only this but the 2nd barrier should help on a day where the barrier is out 9 metres, hence Over Exposure could take advantage of this track bias when he storms home the fastest. Ready to win again and we are happy to take him on.

Best Each Way Bet of the Day

Flemington Race 8 – Re Edit - $7.00/$2.30

Re Edit has proven to be a real tricky horse but we here at the TMRC have gotten right behind her. Damien Oliver jumps back on board here, which is a good sign as he was on her last time she won in impressive fashion. While she might run into a talented horse named Long Arm, we do think that she has a great chance to take it out at larger odds than we normally we get for her. Has placed twice in two starts at Flemington and can finally crack the win, as we believe that the 2000 Metres should not be an issue for her. Let’s all give her strength!

The Mock’s Roughie Alert

Flemington Race 6 – Holbien - $17/$4.20

Hear us out with this one. 36:5-4-8 doesn’t read overly amazing, but Holbien isn’t all the way out of this one in our opinion. He has placed in two runs from four starts this prep and placed in his last start when at long odds at Flemington. Up in trip a further 200 metres than that race, but it won’t bother him as much as you’d think since he has won at the 1400 before. Like we mentioned, the rail is out 9 metres which should favour the leaders and Holbien is a horse that will roll forward and get first bite of the cherry going into the turn into the straight. So, if Holbien gets the right racing line, he can for sure cause an upset at $17 win odds.

The Mock Multi Madness

Best Bet Multi - $6.25

Combine our two best bets in the form of Private Eye and Over Exposure and you’ll get a lovely 6-dollar odds pay packet.

Around the Grounds Multi - $5.08

We go Around the Grounds once more as we look to each state for some winners, make sure to take them as single win bets and then combine them to place into a multi for just over $5. Of course, Private Eye and Over Exposure take our NSW and VIC bets respectively. After this, we go to Murray Bridge in South Australia, where we think Enigman has the right stuff to get a win, if not hopefully a place. In Western Australia, we are Ascot of course and hopefully Willy Pike rides Amelia’s Chant in for a placing to keep the multi alive. We finish in QLD at Gold Coast, where hopefully Snapdancer wins at good odds to fund some beers, but the place is all we need for the multi.

Magic Millions Multi - $31.20

Here we try to take a punt and pick the two major Magic Millions races in the form of the 2YO and 3YO races. First in the two-year-olds, we are going to take a risk and go for Alpine Edge, who we believe has the goods despite an almighty $8 odds. Combine this with Away Game in the three-year-old race and make it over 30-dollar odds. Yes, that is right, we are team Away Game here and not team Isotope and we hope that both of these horses are able to run strong races and bring home the big money for us.

Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
