We are back to shake down this weekend’s cards and try and find some winners. Last week was alright, but could have been better, however there are plenty of group level races this weekend, so enough talking, let’s get stuck in.
Best Bet at Randwick
Race 1 – Vowmaster - $4.20 Win
Going against the heavily backed $1.90 favourite in Wild Ruler. Vowmaster found itself in his position this time last start but failed to fire on an unfamiliar wet track. Good news is that the forecasts call for clear skies and dry turf, so the Vomwaster of old could really make a return this weekend. With the Waller trained horse doing its best work on a dry deck, and we all have seen its best work, its electrifying, it can really pull the victory out of the bag at over $4. So here’s hoping he can get it done for us.
Best Bet at Flemington
Race 5 – Oxley Road - $2.80 Win
Straight to the point in this one, I believe favourite Oxley Road will be far too good here. 2 form 2 in its career and has a Group 3 win under its belt. His trainer Peter Moody thinks he will be a Group 1 level colt, so I’ll back him in, despite the fact he’s facing his biggest competition so far.
Best Each Way Bet
Out to the mile for the first time and Sovereign Award will lead with Quantum Mechanic and Spanish Reef hot on her heels. I think Jamie Kah on Lunakorn will be dangerous, but I am determined to see Spanish Reef to get a positive run. Backed her in as a roughie last start and she almost saluted coming a heartbreaking fourth. She’s won before when second up and does her best work on dry, so I will back her in again at the $9.50 to win and $2.70 place price.
The Mock’s Roughie Alert
TMRC family-owned horse, so we are going to have to back her in right? Despite the fact that usual jockey Kathy O’Hara jumps off, Nash Rawiller is a more than suitable replacement and should give the young filly a great steer with her winkers off for the first time. Came second behind Four Moves Ahead last time out at Randwick, so that is outstanding form to go off, plus the training footage we received made her look like she was absolutely flying. So, the price might be rough, but we will be backing our girl all the way.
The Mock’s Multi Madness
Best Bet Multi - $11.76
Combine Vowmaster and Oxley Road into a multi and if they both win; you’ll collect a lovely $11.76 odd multi.
Around The Grounds Multi - $4.24
We go around the grounds once more, remember to take these as single win bets and combine them all into this place multi that pays $4.24. Of course, Oxley Road takes our VIC slot, but since Vowmaster’s race is NTD, we will take Stay Inside for NSW. We head to SA at Morphettville and in the first race we hope that Divina Calle brings the goods. In QLD, at Eagle Farm, I think The Stifmeister will win for us, if not place. Finally, in the at Burbury, in WA, Excellent Dream seems to be a good bet and as a result, we will back him in.
Just For Fun Multi - $505
This one is for a bit of fun and a bit of spare change if you have it. We are going to try and combine all four Group 1 races and if we get it right, we’ll be cheering come Saturday night. We’ll go Peltzer in the Randwick Guineas, Bivouac in the Canterbury Stakes, September Run in the Newmarket and Defibrillate in the Aussie Cup. Fingers crossed they all get up, cause if they do, there might be a few nudie runs going around our streets!
Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
