Enough talk – Let’s get stuck into it shall we!

Best Bet @ Pakenham

Race 8 – The Astrologist - $2.50 Win

Time for one of my favourite horses to run around the track, in the form of The Astrologist. He was my best bet of the day, two weeks back on the podcast and it missed out by a whisker, on a Ballarat deck that just hated favourites for some reason. But he’s back and is my best bet of the day once more. If he doesn’t win, I expect at least a top 3 finish. It’s just a horse that will run really strong, both early and late. He’s back to his ideal distance and I can’t see it finishing out of the money.

If you want more value however, I can’t forget to mention that Wicklow Town, a nice little blackbooker of mine finally gets the upgrade to Saturday racing and will be out to prove itself with $18 to win and $4.40 to place odds, I can’t not have a small each way bet on it because it’s won me so much money previously, in weekday and Sunday races.

Best Bet @ Rosehill

Race 1 – Kiku - $3.90 Win

It’s not a terribly strong race to start the day at Rosehill, however we believe we’ve found a clear winner in Kiku. The purple silked filly is a classic James McDonald/ Chris Waller combo and it likes to sit just off the pace, plus she doesn’t hate the soft ground, which will help make up for the wide barrier. It is a horse that has never run a bad race and I don’t expect it to start on Saturday, $3.90 to win on Play Up are lovely odds, back it to win, however, if its placing price drifts above $2, go each way to ensure money back if it finishes in the money.

I’d also keep an eye on Fastconi, can hit the front hard and never look back if it wants to in these conditions and at $16 to win and $3.80 to place it could be dangerous, you might want to chuck a small each way stake on it.

Best Each Way Bet of the Day

Rosehill Race 3 – Rumberella - $10 Win/$3.20 Place

Going to be a moderately run race here, with a few to hit the front including Deadly Impact, Riverstock and Call Me Artie. But I do really think that the track conditions could really come into play for Rumberella. It loves the soft track and will sit nicely on pace from the inside barrier which is just what the track bias will require of him. I know that when its wet at Rosehill, horses will avoid the rail position, but as it sits on pace, it can move to whatever position it requires if the inside is already chopped up.

Not only this but it’s coming off two straight victories, so all I am hearing is ticks. Happy to take $10 to win and $3.20 to place.

The Mock’s Roughie Alert

Doomben Race 8 – Tambo’s Mate - $17 Win/$4.40 Place

I am keen to take the #3 Tambo’s Mate in this one. I am no expert when it comes to Brisbane racing, but this horse just appears over the odds to me at $17 to win and $4.40 to place, plus it has a ripper name. It carried the 59kg top weight when resuming in its last start at the Sunny Coast and despite the weight it had to carry, he charged home late, having one of the fastest last 400’s of the day and just missed out on picking up the win over Sugar Boom, who is an incredible horse, I know that much.

So that’s a nice indicator of form in my mind and he gets to 1200m, which appears to be its ideal distance and has a great second up record. I really do think Tambo’s Mate is a sneaky chance to earn us all a few bucks here, go Each Way.

The Mock’s Multi Madness

Best Bet Multi - $9.75

Combine our two best bets of the day, Kiku in the first at Rosehill and The Astrologist in the eighth race at Pakenham for lovely $9.75 odds on Play Up if they both win.

Around the Ground Multi - $7.78

Time to look for some great options to combine into a multi from around the country. In Adelaide, at Morphettville in the seventh race Ritratto looks good for a place with its great form as late. Similarly, Too Close The Sun to place takes our Perth bet at Ascot, in the Kingston Town Classic. In QLD, at Doomben, we hope Paniagua can continue its winning ways in Race 4 and make it 8 straight, however to be safe, we are putting him on to just place. Rounding out the Multi is our two best bets, in NSW, at Rosehill Kiku looks the goods for a place and so does The Astrologist at Pakenham, in Victoria. All of these combine nicely for a just under 8-dollar multi.

Just For Fun Multi - $94.76

We all dream of hitting that mammoth multi, it’s in every punter’s DNA. That is why we have provided you with a whopper of an 8 leg multi that is worth a little bit of spare change. It is as follows: Rosehill R1 Kiku to place, Rosehill R2 Instant Attraction to place, Rosehill R6 Accountability to pace, Rosehill R7 Eleven Eleven to place, Rosehill R9 Oxford Tycoon to place, Pakenham R7 Knight’s Order to place, Pakenham R8 The Astrologist to place and finally, Ascot R7 Celebrity Queen to place. That all adds up to a grand total of $94.76 on Play Up. I don’t know about you, but if this hits, I would be pretty mad if I didn’t have anything on it.

Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers.

Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
