We are back to shake down this weekends cards after a relatively successful outing last week as we were able to jag a couple of winners at great odds last week with Mosh Music getting it done, as well as a couple of our Around The Grounds picks getting up. Hopefully, we can continue this form into this week’s meets, let’s get stuck into it!
Best Bet at Rosehill
The Bjorn Baker and Rachel King combination has been absolutely flying as of late and Harpo Marx lines up here to continue this incredible form. He’ll join favourite Great House in running up from the back in order to try and get it done, but I think he can edge out the favourite and hold his line. Has won 3 from 6 starts this campaign with 2 others being minor placings, so with the form combined with the closing speed is all that has to convince me to have my money on Harpo Marx here.
Best Bet at Caulfield
Race 9 – Defibrillate - $2.45 Win
It’s a tricky one here with Heavenly Emperor looking the best bet with its blistering opening speed combined with the track bias that could come into effect. However, we think Defibrillate has the even better closing speed to overcome the wide draw and take the Emperor down. Coming off 2 strong wins and another 5 on top of that under its belt throughout his career, Defibrillate is certainly a horse that knows how to get it done. Expect Billy Egan to ride it softly throughout the first two thirds of the race, before letting it launch in the final straight.
Best Each Way Bet
Now here is a TMRC favourite that is just desperate to win one. Old girl Starla has finished top 3 in her last 4 starts and as such always seems to find herself at strong each way odds. Once again, the bookies have listed her over the odds at a $9 to win price-tag. We think her closing speed will help her finally get it done here, especially after last start when she was second to Private Eye. That is a form line that reads exceptionally well and deserves to be respected. Give her strength!
The Mock’s Roughie Alert
You will read this and call me crazy, but hear me out. While Southern Lad is lining up against the likes of Masked Crusader, Big Parade and Mo’s Crown here, we think he could potentially take the upset victory. He loves to run fresh so the trial placing combined with the fact that it has been 29 days since his last race adds to our confidence levels. Plus, the most likely wet track will only help his chances. It is a small staker, but certainly don’t dismiss Southern Lad.
The Mock’s Multi Madness
Best Bet Multi - $12.25
Combine Harpo Marx and Defibrillate into a multi and if they both win, you’ll collect a lovely $12 odd multi.
Around The Grounds Multi - $5
We go around the grounds once more, remember to take these as single win bets and combine them all into this place multi that pays an even $5. Of course, Harpo Marx and Defibrillate take up our NSW and VIC slots. We head to South Australia at Morphettville and in the fourth race we hope that Soul Obsession provides the goods. In QLD, at the Sunshine Coast track, I reckon Platinum Euros is the best and will win for us, if not place. Finally, at Ascot in WA, Prince Devoutly seems to be a real good chance to take it and as a result, we will back him in.
Just For Fun Multi - $22.40
For this one, we will see if all of the returning stars can get it done in their respective races. In the Durbridge at Morphettville lets cheer home Behemoth and we’ll roll that into the Chairman’s with Enthaar. After that, hopefully Tagaloa gets it done and finally Ole Kirk in the Expressway. If all four of them win we will get a pretty price of $22.40 on Play Up for our troubles.
Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
