We are back to shake down this weekend’s cards and try and find some winners. Last week was alright as we snagged Defibrillate, unfortunately the second half of our tips either ran shocking or were scratched. There are plenty of group level races this weekend, so enough talking, let’s get stuck in.
Best Bet at Randwick
Race 2 – Captivant - $3.50 Win
Smaller field here and with a much more moderate pace. Favourite Shaquero will get the leading run from the inside barrier and despite the fact that I’ve backed it many a time before, including a Magic Millions victory, I think I might look elsewhere in this one. Captivant is a smart young colt that looks to be on his way to a Golden Slipper start and potential win. He has won before at Randwick and has won his last two trials in the lead up to this, so I believe he can get a major win here on his way to the slipper. $3.50 is enough for me.
Best Bet at Flemington
Race 6 – Buffalo River - $2.70 Win
Buffalo River returned well after an average Spring prep and looks very hard to beat here. After coming a narrow 2nd last start over 1400 to Regardsmaree, he is looking like he will relish the extra 200 metres. Plus, the form line behind Regardsmaree will help, if he lands on speed and makes sure to pace himself, before launching in the final straight, he can certainly take the victory here over a classy field.
Best Each Way Bet
Discharged and Greyworm to go forward here with strong contenders Deprive and Criaderas expected to charge home late and make a lunge for the line. A really strong line up here with the likes of Deprive, Criaderas, Reloaded, All Saints Eve, Trumbull and Think It Over, all running fresh and what makes it harder is that they’ve all won when fresh. Not only this, but most have actually won in the wet as well, so it’ll make for a real entertaining race. I think I might go for value here. All Saints Eve looks over the odds to me here with her fourth in the Golden Eagle form. Has won twice in wet and once first up, with $17 win and $4.60 place odds, I’m happy to have something small each way.
The Mock’s Roughie Alert
Now this horse can run a really rough race on its day, but on other days, it has the ability to shock the system with an upset win. We believe, that today could possibly be one of those days for a shock upset. Pfeiffer trained mare that has plenty of experience running at this level, and while the competition is quite classy, the hard turf will treat her well. All 4 career wins have come on a good track, so if she gets out of the pack from the 6th barrier, McEvoy can kick her into gear and hopefully her excellent turn of foot ability can shine.
The Mock’s Multi Madness
Best Bet Multi - $9.45
Combine Captivant and Buffalo River into a multi and if they both win; you’ll collect a lovely $9.45 odd multi.
Around The Grounds Multi - $4.22
We go around the grounds once more, remember to take these as single win bets and combine them all into this place multi that pays $4.22. Of course, Captivant and Buffalo River take up our NSW and VIC slots. We head to SA at Murray Bridge and in the eighth race we hope that Tibetan brings the goods. In QLD, at Sunshine Coast, I think Kisukano will win for us, if not place. Finally, in the at Ascot, in WA, Phoneme seems to be a good bet and as a result, we will back him in.
Just For Fun Multi - $114
This one is for a bit of fun and a spare fiver if you have it. We are going to try and combine all three Group 1 races and if we get it right, we’ll be cheering come Saturday night. We’ll go Verry Elleegatn in the Chipping Norton, Away Game in the Surround Stakes and Zou Dancer in the Australian Guineas. Fingers crossed they all get up!
Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
