We are back for another week, after last Saturday was full of scratchings and value plays. If you followed the Saturday Shakedown tips, it would have been an average week as half of our tips were scratched and the favourites were all skittled by huge price outsiders.
But as the saying goes, you can’t win every week and we reset. As always, if you want access to this weekend’s full card of tips, then you will have to listen to the TMRC podcast. All you have to do is search @themockracingclub on Instagram, Soundcloud or Spotify.
Enough talk, let’s get stuck into the tips!
Best Bet at Randwick
Race 4 – Accountability - $2.60 to Win
We here at the TMRC have backed this horse every single one of its races this prep and he is yet to disappoint with 2 wins, and a single placing from his 4 starts. If it aint broke, don’t fix it, so happy to be riding him again here. Waller has him flying at the moment, plus he’ll only appreciate a little juice in the track even more. Think he’s beautifully placed in this one, expect him to sit just off the midfield pack and then storm home in the final straight. Hopefully a nice winner to get us started.
Best Bet at Flemington
Re Edit is a tricky horse but I really do believe that she’s returned in really good order with a narrow defeat to Rocha Clock on Oaks Day, then following that up with an outstanding win at Mooney Valley. The overall time was good for the day, but the race did produce the worst last 200m of the meeting, so that’s a concern, but the hot early tempo is the reason for that. Craig Williams jumps on to become the 4th jockey to ride her in the last 4 races, which is a slight concern, but Williams should have no dramas in steering her right. While she might run into a wall called Ocean’s Thirteen, I do think that she has a great chance to take it. Going to be a win bet if he place price drifts in, each way if it drifts out.
Best Each Way Bet of the Day
Fulmina is a great horse that has all the upside to win this race, as explained in this week’s edition of ‘This’ll Win on Saturday’. However, there is one horse that goes up against it that I really think could snag a place, or even accomplish a knockout victory and that is Kim Waugh trained Knight. If you remember Knight from our Follow, Forgive, Forget series on Instagram, you will know that I said to follow Knight as a horse that is looking like it has a big career ahead of it. It’s had an outstanding prep with two wins two placings and a 4th, including a dominant win at even money in a midweek race last start. So with his odds at $8.50 to win and $2.50 to place, I’ll happily have something each way on him as well as a win bet on Fulmina.
The Mock’s Roughie Alert
I’m with Tambo’s Mate in this one, who just like a few weeks ago will be my Roughie of the day. I rode him in the George More at similar odds and come race time he had to do a huge amount of work to get near the speed and despite that early burn, he continued to try his heart out and finished a great 4th fourth to Hard Empire in an excellent effort. I like him up to 1350m and if he can get on speed without spending too much of his energy early like last time I really think he can cause an upset, so Tambo’s Mate at $11 to win and $3.30 to place for me.
The Mock’s Multi Madness
Best Bet Multi - $10.92
If you combine Accountability in the fourth at Randwick and Re Edit in the sixth at Flemington, our good friends at Play Up will provide you with a lovely $10.92 odd multi if they both win.
Around The Grounds Multi - $6.95
We go Around the Grounds once more as we look to each state for some winners, make sure to take them as single win bets and then combine them to place into a multi for just under $7. Of course, Accountability and Re Edit take our NSW and VIC bets respectively.
After this, we go to Gawler in South Australia, where we think Harpuna has the right stuff to get a win, if not definitely a place. In Western Australia, we are Ascot of course and hopefully Willy Pike rides Chantrea in for a placing to keep the multi alive. We finish in QLD at Doomben, where hopefully Lot’s Wife wins at good odds to fund some beers, but the place is all we need for the multi.
Just for Fun Multi - $33.39
This one is only for a few bucks, a fiver even if you have one spare, because we all dream of hitting that monster multi. Keep in mind, due to Trekking killing us on our first monster multi, these are all to place to be somewhat safer. At Randwick, we go Vitesse, Mission River and Black Duke. At Flemington, we put our trust in Skiddaw and Riding The Wave to add a bit more value. Finally, a horse that has brought the TMRC a bit of money in the past, it's So You Win. If all of these horses go top 3, you will be paid out odds at a lovely 33 buckaroos.
Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
