We are back to shake down this weekend’s cards after a nice outing last week as we were able to jag a winner with everyone’s favourite Probabeel getting it done, as well as a couple of our Around The Grounds picks getting up. Hopefully, we can continue this form into this week’s meets, let’s get stuck into it!
Best Bet at Randwick
Race 8 – Away Game - $3.20 Win
Real strong field here for this Moderately tempo race. Horses such as Elizabeel, Vangelic and the main chance Away Game will go forward. After the tragic Isotope fall of the Magic Millions race held her back, I think Away Game gets the redeeming win here. Since she is back to her ideal distance and is fit and ready to go, $3.20 is a real good price tag for a horse that is a class above the rest here.
Best Bet at Flemington
Race 3 - Buffalo River - $3.30 Win
Buffalo River had a real average Spring prep, which ended with a third in the Cantala. His two jumpout wins have me confident in his ability to bounce back and get it done here. So if the best version of Buffalo River and he shows up ready to go fresh, Jamie Kah could really help steer him back to his first win since May last year.
Best Each Way Bet
Moderate tempo here and my oh my, what a field. Madam Rouge, Tailleur, Subpoenad and most importantly, Icebath are all hitting the track here. Tailleur ad Electric Girl go forward with the rest of the horses I mentioned all coming from the back. Subpoenaed is always tricky, as one day it’ll run terribly, then the next it will win, don’t think one of those wins will come here though. Tailleur will most likely win but too short for me here, as such, it’s Icebath for me. One of my favourite horses going around at the moment and the fact that she loves to run first up, at Randwick, and in the wet, the $7.50 to win and $2 to place price tag is ridiculously overs, each way for me.
The Mock’s Roughie Alert
This young filly gets her first start here but it is getting me real excited. Related to Black Caviar, as well as a half sister to the great Ole Kirk, who actually won this race last year before he went on his Group 1 tear, so you know her pedigree is up to scratch. Her trainer Moody seems to be absolutely enamoured with her and think she will be his next big thing, so that’s all I need to hear to take a punt on her. In a real open field, I really think this is a roughie you can back with confidence.
The Mock’s Multi Madness
Best Bet Multi - $10.56
Combine Away Game and Buffalo River into a multi and if they both win; you’ll collect a lovely $10.56 odd multi.
Around The Grounds Multi - $5.69
We go around the grounds once more, remember to take these as single win bets and combine them all into this place multi that pays $5.69. Of course, Away Game and Buffalo River take up our NSW and VIC slots. We head to South Australia at Morphettville and in the seventh race we hope that Lake’s Folly provides the goods. In QLD, at good old Doomben, I reckon Good Chat is the best and will win for us, if not place. Finally, in the Challenge Stakes at Ascot, in WA, Western Empire seems to be almost a moral and as a result, we will back him in.
Just For Fun Multi - $31.61
For a multi that is worth a few spare dollars, we try to pick the winner in the three biggest races of the day. In the Challenge Stakes at Ascot, we take Western Empire. We are going to turn that into Verry Elleegant in the Apollo at Randwick and finally Nature Strip in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington. If all three are able to win, we will have funded your Saturday night’s beers, and plenty of them.
Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
