We asked you last week why you weren’t listening to The Mock Racing Club Podcast, and the question stands, why the heck aren’t you? Last Saturday, we were able to provide our followers with 11 whole winners on the day, as well as multiple Each Way bets snagging a placing.
If you read our article last week, you would have noticed that not one of the horses mentioned finished outside of the Top 4. From our 5 best bets from each state, 3 got up in the form of Paniagua, The Astrologist and Ritratto. Kiku unfortunately came 3rd in a No Third Dividend Race and Too Close To Sun finished 4th by a whisker to kill our Around The Grounds Place Multi.
For the full rundown on Saturday’s cards make sure to listen to the podcast, all you have to do is search @themockracingclub on Spotify, Instagram or Soundcloud. But for now, we get stuck into the Saturday Shakedown!
Best Bet at Flemington
Going to be moderate pace in this race, Charossa and Brilliant Venture will roll forward and the rest will sit just off them or in the midfield pack. Tralee Rose is looking the one to beat with three straight wins under its belt and an inside barrier, combine this with its strong closing speed ability, it could take it by a couple of lengths if it wanted to. But I’m preferring Reflect the Stars.
Last start I think Johnny Allen just waited a couple hundred metres too long to really kick her into gear and that cost her when beaten narrowly by Blandford Lad. I really do think that with the lesson being learnt and a more effective ride coming from Damien Oliver this time will allow it to win. At $5.50 to win and $1.90 to place, I’ll be backing her for the win, but if that price for a placing drifts above $2, jump on each way to ensure money back if it comes up short again.
Best Bet at Randwick
Pinnacle Prince - $2.60 Win
This is a horse that appears to have a huge future ahead of it. The colt resumes fresh after two strong runs in his Winter prep, which saw him win strongly on debut at Scone. After this, it moved onto a highway race here at Randwick, where he was backed in by the punters as an unbeatable star, however, he was beaten narrowly by stablemate It’s Me.
If you don’t know who that is, It’s Me is undefeated in 4 starts, including an impressive Kosciuszko victory. If it’s able to run that well behind that strong of a horse, I expect it to bolt in here. If it wins, make sure you black book it, because it’s only the beginning of a fantastic career.
Best Each Way Bet of the Day
Going to be a really fast run race here with Somerset Maugham looking the one to beat. However, I am with old boy Kaplumpich. Always the bridesmaid never the bride Kaplumpich. We rode him in the first instalment of the podcast and he came second for the 3rd time straight.
He has placed in half of his 33 career starts and I hope he can grab another one if not a win. I think if it is able to settle in its preferred position, which is just off the pace, he should be able to gain control and steam home. Happy to take each way with $8.00 to win and $2.70 to place.
The Mock’s Roughie Alert
While Bandersnatch is the clear favourite in this race and I will be having something on it to win, I can’t not have something small Each Way on Wicklow Town. This young gelding is on a 7-day backup after coming 6th, behind The Astrologist last week at Pakenham.
He is also in my black book and has been since I discovered him, amongst a 5-race prep that included 3 straight wins to start, followed by two straight narrow seconds. He’s tested, and while he might prefer a little sting in the track, he comes up against a field that isn’t amazing. So, I am glad to have a gamble and see if my old favourite can finish in the top 3.
The Mock’s Multi Madness
Best Bet Multi - $13.00
Combine our two best bets from the main tracks to both win. If Reflect The Stars gets up at Flemington and Pinnacle Prince wins at Randwick, you’ll get a handy $13 odds on Play Up.
Around the Grounds Multi - $7.00
Time to look for some great options to combine into a place multi from around the country, take all of these as singles to win as well. In Adelaide, at Morphettville in the third race Theresabearinthere looks good for a place first up after a great first prep. Similarly, Sugar Cain to place takes our Perth bet at Ascot, hasn’t been out of the money in a while and has Pike on board, looks the goods.
In QLD, at Eagle Farm, we hope Good Chat can continue its winning ways in the first race and make it three on the trot, rounding out the Multi is our two best bets, in NSW, at Randwick Pinnacle Prince should place, if not win and same goes for Reflect The Stars at Flemington, in Victoria. All of these combine nicely for a 7-dollar multi.
Just for Fun Multi - $31.85
Last weeks mega multi only went down by a couple of fourths and a No Third Dividend, so we hope that this week we have better luck. We are going all wins here on Pinnacle Prince in the first at Randwick. After that we head to Eagle Farm in The Gateway and we hope that Paniagua goes an incredible 9 straight wins to keep to multi rolling. To finish it off, we are supporting Classique Legend in his trip to Sha Tin to try and break the bad luck of Aussie horses racing Internationally.
If all of these talented horses win, you’ll get whatever your stake was multiplied by 32 bucks. I’d have a few bucks on this one and pray with us.
Well punters, that’s the Saturday Shakedown for the week, good luck to all of you out there and we hope that by Saturday night we have funded a few of your beers. Remember, however, to know your limits and ALWAYS gamble responsibly.
