Saturday Racing Preview - Rupert Clarke Stakes Day

*UPDATE*

At time of writing this, my best bet of the day was $35, it has been backed in $19, not my money, unfortunately.

Rupert Clarke Stakes Day at Caulfield, bit of rain around in Melbourne but not enough to be racing on anything but a Good track, or so you'd think. Couple of winners last week, this week I think we've found one at really juicy odds.

Caulfield

Tricky start to the day, there's a good clash in Race 4 between Front Page and Octane. But I don't think that race ends there, I'd be leaning to Front Page in that stoush, but there's others in the race that are seasoned old gallopers, cracking race but just one to watch for me.

First bet of the day in Melbourne is going to be in Race 5, Sierra Sue. No favours with the barrier but will roll forward and might sit outside a Thousand Wishes. Think Sierra Sue is a really progressive horse and if she isn't asked to do too much early, will look the winner in the straight and I think will hang on. $4.80 or thereabouts, just about each way odds, I am getting on.

Rightio, big roughie in Race 7, the MRC Foundation Cup. $35 or thereabouts, ridiculous odds. I'll be having a nice each way bet on Steel Prince. Second up this preparation, first up run reads beaten 7L or thereabouts which it was, but it was asked to go back from the wide barrier to last and they weren't making up much ground on the day. This time around, it draws Barrier 3 which will give it the chance to possy up closer to the speed, I can see it being midfield under Jye McNeil. Might be going off one run too early but at the odds, this looks a great bet for a horse that ran best late splits last start.

The other bet in Melbourne will be in the feature, the Rupert Clarke Stakes. What beats Behemoth here? I can't find anything. Back to handicap conditions doesn't suit and he'll carry 60kg, but with barrier 5 and Willo on, it looks to have the race at his mercy and has come up $5. Good bet for me each way, the danger might be one at odds, Dollar for Dollar.

Randwick

It's an absolute Chris Waller-athon for me in Sydney on Saturday. He gets the majority of my attention and I'll have something small on a horse he used to train in fact.

Race 3, not the best draw but loved the return of Nudge, this horse appears to have come back bigger and better. Hopefully J Collett can get in three wide with cover perhaps and it'll be hitting the line hard over 1600.

Now, Race 5. This is a cracking race, if Reloaded had of drawn well I would have gone and got a bank loan but he's drawn sticky. He'll be rattling hard late, probably would have preferred him up over 1600m but just backing J Mac to pull something off here. Like the horse going forward, this might not be his race necessarily but I'll still be with him around the $4.60.

The fact we're on a Good track has Verry Elleegant at $2.30. If it was anything worse than Good, she'd be odds on. Last time she was at the Randwick mile on a good track, she ran a half length off Te Akau Shark, so the Good track holds no fear for me here. I think she just wins.

For nothing else but the fact I am loyal, I am going to have a bit each way on Girl Tuesday in the Kingston Town Stakes. G Boss and no weight, she's been hitting the line well. Been very costly but this might be her day with not a lot of confidence!

Gold Coast

Racing in QLD is at the Gold Coast and they've dished up a great day of racing. It is tricky but, lucky we're going to rob the bookies in Sydney and Melbourne!

All I'll be doing at the Gold Coast is a three-leg multi, starting in Race 6. The Move will be winning, then the next race, Kisukano should be winning, think it might be a bit under the odds but to be fair. Then, Race 8 it'll all be about Zoustyle. Surely over 900m he'll lead them a merry dance and win. Zoustyle beat The Odyssey in an 840m trial in second gear, Emerald Kingdom was in that trial too, watch out for it maybe next week returning, trialled good.

Your three leg multi with The Move, Kisukano and Zoustyle will pay around $5 or thereabouts, that'll do and I reckon, they'll be a lot of people doing the same thing.

Best in Adelaide would have to be Viduka in the last, narrowly beaten last week by a bloody good horse!

Best of the weekend? Steel Prince at huge odds! Give it strength.

Good luck, good punting and gamble responsibly.
