Saturday Racing Preview - Golden Rose Day

Massive weekend of racing with the QLD'er Rothfire headlining the Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill!

Behemoth was good to us last week, as was Steel Prince who we tipped at $35 on Thursday night and we got a nice place the price. Then a couple of stinkers and a couple of scratchings, that was the tale of last weekend.

Cautious this weekend with some good and competitive racing, doesn't mean we won't find a couple of winners!

Caulfield

Tough, tough, tough start in Melbourne. Leaving my bets til a running double in the feature races. Loyal followers who may have read an article of mine earlier in the week will know that Instant Celebrity is my bet of the day in the 7th, this horse looks a star and should be rattling home over the top of them. C Williams with the steer, jeez I am keen @ around $2.90.

In the next race, well it's all about Russian Camelot in the Underwood isn't it? Drawn sticky again but surely this is his race. Arcadia Queen, Mr Quickie and the old boy Humidor are your first four contenders I'd suggest but it's going to be Russian Camelot's day on Saturday around $1.90.

Rosehill

First bet in Sydney will be the favourite in Race 4, Love Tap. Went around at $1.07 last start at Goulburn and dually saluted. Nash rode him that day and he's on again here and the big grey looks a nice prospect. Maybe a touch of unders at $2.35, might get better on game day I'd suggest but think this is a good horse in the making.

In the Golden Rose, I won't be betting, but I'll be cheering home Rothfire for Rob Heathcote and Jimmy Byrne. Looks seriously hard to beat but think he's big unders at $1.85. Peltzer and Ole Kirk are both good chances with the step up in distance. Go Rothfire!

The other really healthy each way bet in Sydney on Saturday is in Race 8. Waller trains the favourite, but it is mighty short. Waller also trains the one I'll be backing, Subpoenaed with Tommy Berry from a good draw. This is a good horse and around the $8.50, she really appeals. So long as the Rosehill track isn't playing hard on the fence and thus favouring leaders, she'll be in the finish.

Toowoomba

Weetwood Day in Toowoomba and they get the metro meeting which sadly for us means some massive fields!!

First bet we'll have in Race 2, Junction ($5). Went to the line comparably to Supergiant last start but they come up with a big discrepancy in their prices. I can't work out why. I just don't like the favourite here, so if it isn't Junction, maybe Prioritise ($7.50) might be the one? Either way, I'll be laying the favourite and having something on those other two.

Feature of the day is the Weetwood in Race 8, there's quite a long tail to it and it looks a nice race for The Odyssey ($3.30). Did the right thing for us first up, beating Alligator Blood and now gets it's chance from a perfect barrier. It can lead, but if it has to let the speed go and sit in behind Fiery Heights, Monsieur Gustave and a few others, it can do that too. The tight Toowoomba track just makes this a good bet. Love You Lucy, Red Chase and Bergerac (at huge odds!) will be flying at the end but The Odyssey for this year's Weetwood.

I've just about given up betting in Adelaide. Just take the short priced favourite in the first if you're feeling adventurous.

Good luck, good punting and gamble responsibly.
