Saturday Racing Preview - Cox Plate Day

Cox Plate Day! Merry Christmas!

The best two minutes in sport, won by some absolute superstars of the turf. Some rain predicted for Melbourne which'll just spice this up.

Moonee Valley

Playing on a soft track you'd think, perhaps we even get to heavy. So you'd expect wide barriers to be no disadvantage and they'll be able to run on down the centre of the track.

First bet of the day, comes up in Race 4, Ecumenical. Huge run in the Thousand Guineas, wide off the track and battled on well for fourth. Wide barrier again this week but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Looks like most people have found it around the $2.60, looks hard to beat.

Race 6, we're all over Young Werther. You can read more about that here, but he's already been well backed!

In the big one of the day, tipping Probabeel to win the Cox Plate. Don't want it absolutely heavy but if we're around a Soft track, that'll suit. You can read the Cox Plate preview, here.

Randwick

Racing in Sydney for Bondi Stakes Day.

Tricky start, first bet comes up in Race 5. I am very loyal, maybe stupid, but very loyal and this is quite a weak race. Backing Girl Tuesday to get a win on the board, it's been running well and gets a good draw and Nash Rawiller on Saturday. This is her race around $4.80, surely!

Bet of the day in Sydney comes up in the last, Icebath went over the line along side Dawn Passage last start and now gets out to the 1600m which I think it is ready for. Tom Sherry takes 3kg off the back and draws well. Very very keen here around $3.20.

Doomben

Racing in Brisbane is at Doomben, a massive 10-race card.

Niedorp will jump, lead and win the first, but no prizes for getting that around $1.40.

Race 3, having a good crack at the Heathcote trained Ziemba which finished off well last start against the pattern. 1615m seems right for it now and I reckon with a lack of tempo in the race, it'll sit a bit closer to the speed on Saturday. Good bet around $3.

We have to wait a while, but Race 9 is another one for Heathcote. We were on this first up and it ran well after a very wide run on the speed. Second up, R Fradd and Emerald Kingdom ($3.80) should get a lovely run tucked just in behind the leaders. Excellent second up record, keen here.

Last race of the day, Thine is the Power is in first up and draws a good gate. Early money for it and last preparation it improved nicely. Around $4.60, this might be the best way of getting out late in the day!

Enjoy Cox Plate day!
