Group 1 Memsie Stakes day, won by some absolute superstars of the turf, how about Atlantic Jewel's win in 2013, unreal. 1400m at Caulfield and at first glance, a wide open race with some value to be had. Let's make some bank.
San Domencio Stakes day in Sydney, a small but select field. No bets until race 5, I am not overly inspired by the Sydney card of racing to be honest. This is a nice horse but, Peltzer ($3.70). 3 from 3 and super impressive beating Overlord by 4L last time out before a spell. It has some good opposition on Saturday, but can see this thing jumping a clear favourite on race day and getting the chocolates. Gives me the Pierro type feel this horse, imagine if he got to his level, big call!
Race 7 is the Group 3 Ming Dynasty and I am sticking with the same form line, the aforementioned, Overlord. J Mac, Waller and barrier 1, decent combo! $2.45 in early markets looks attractive. Going to get stuck in here, even more confident after Peltzer beats them by 5L earlier in the day.
That's probably it for Sydney, if it's looking a bit grim come 5pm on Saturday, I'll have a few bob (old folk chat) on Kubrick. Well overs at $26 in early markets, admittedly needs to find his best form.
Over to Melbourne and first bet of the day comes up in Race 5. Keeping it nice and simple here and backing the best horse in the race, clearly, the top weight, Young Rascal ($7.50). First up stats are terrific, 4 wins from 6 starts and loves the sting out of the track, which it will presumably get on Saturday. It'll sit handy from the low draw and pull out at the top of the straight and go right on past them. 62kg is a fair impost, but it's earnt it.
The Memsie Stakes, backing Behemoth in a two bet strategy. Impressive win first up think he can take the next step here. Mr Quickie, well he was a one time Caulfield Cup favourite last year after that enormous run first up at Flemington, remember that? Big odds, worth a bit each way, Behemoth will be my main play in the race.
Last race of the day, well they're doing their best to beat her. Barrier 13 and 58kgs but how can you not tip Rubisaki? 8 wins from 10 starts, tricky draw but Billy Egan knows how to ride. I'm worried about her getting swooped late, that bloody thing Fidelia will no doubt be the one given I am not backing her, but banking on Rubisaki to round out a winning day.
Racing in Brisbane at Eagle Farm, 9 races and some beautiful QLD weather. I don't know what it is about the 5th Race on Saturday at all venues, but that's where we are kicking off in Brisvegas as well, at least I'll get a nice sleep in!
Loved the first up win of Junction, this is a serious horse. I had blackbooked it after last prep and I let it go around at huge odds first up, without a cent on it, not letting it get under the guard this week. $8.50 or so looks wonderful. Great to see the big grey, The Candy Man back as well, hope he runs a nice second!
The other bet in Brisbane, the best weighted horse all day. Desert Lord. 2.5L off the winner in a Doncaster Prelude last prep, you'd think that'll be good enough. Maloney and barrier 3. Ahhh, winning. Short but sweet.
Speaking of well weighted, they will not get near Dalasan ($1.45) in the 7th at Morphetville. Crikey, it looks an absolute moral!
Pretty confident this weekend, let's hope we're cheering come Saturday evening!
