Saturday Racing Preview

Group 1 racing is back! You little beauty, what a sensational field the Winx Stakes has pulled together as well. More about that later, let's find some winners down the eastern seaboard and maybe a couple in Adelaide as well if we're lucky.

In case you haven't watched any Winx clips on YouTube this week, here you go.

Moonee Valley

Racing in Melbourne heads back to the Valley for a 9-race card. Couple of bets I want to have and we might try and get the chocolates nice and early.

First race of the day, the favourite just looks too good doesn't it? Normally I'd see Widgee Turf and Miami Bound going around, perhaps even Odeon, and think that one of them would be hard to beat but I can make a case against them all? Widgee wasn't too bad first up but presume he will be back on a slow speed here, whilst Odeon will probably sit on the speed but doesn't have a strong first up record. Then there is Miami Bound? A few false starts to get her back to the track and has to carry 60kgs, not sure. Favourite looks bomb proof around $1.75 and with only 54kgs on its back. In order, Coming Around, Odeon, Widgee Turf then Miami Bound!

Race 3 on the day, now I don't want to make a habit of backing favourites but did you see Jenni's Rainbow's first win? Wowee. Quality! Drawn well, thinking it will sit in just behind them and belt down the short straight, $2.90 looks okay for a good horse if it can replicate it's debut performance.

Feature of the day in Melbourne, the Carlyon Stakes. 1000m dash and last start winner, impressively might I add, Brooklyn Hustle comes up favourite. Whilst it is a good horse, I couldn't possibly have it that short, I think the market is wrong here. Our old mate Jungle Edge will be praying for the heavens to open, not sure that's what will happen, if they do, then he'll jump favourite. I was going to play Alfa Oro here but he's been taken out, if it were dry, I'd be all over Humma Humma but just don't think she's as effected on wet tracks. If it happens to get to a Soft 5 or anything better, I'll back Humma Humma at around $8.50.

Book ending the meeting in Brisbane on Saturday with a bet in the first and a bet in the last. First race, think the favourite Eelloh will appreciate the step up in distance after a last start victory. $2.25 looks a good price, expect improvement from the Heathcote runner as well, Bellissimi Amici with Fradd on from the inside draw.

Best of the day in Brisbane, unfortunately we have to wait for the last so keep some chips in your pocket. Gollan and Byrne, decent combo. Run for Glory is the horse, it's won it's last couple at the Sunny Coast and looks a progressive type that is putting together a good record. $4, we might get better in fact but from a low draw, looks a good bet!

Royal Randwick

Alrighty, Royal Randwick and the Winx Stakes. A cracking field will contest the feature on what looks like it will be a wet track, maybe we will get into the soft range by race day.

Difficult start to the day however, so going to keep the powder very dry early. Race 5 is the Show County, really strong field with Funstar a dual acceptor in this and the Winx Stakes, will be interesting to see what they do there. Special Reward appeals to me first up, just has to negotiate the tricky draw but gets B Avdulla to offset that. I'll be getting on at around $5.50.

Winx Stakes time, jeez it brings together some of my absolute favourites. So much so that I think I'll be having 2, maybe 3 bets in this one. Based on the likely wet (ish) track, I think the Bostonian could get the run of the race just in behind Dreamforce, I'll back The Bostonian to win. The others are two that might need a run but are still excellent chances of winning, Verry Elleegant, the absolute swimmer and the horse that currently sits second in favouritism for the Caulfield Cup, Master of Wine. If I was forced to throw in another for the First 4, the QLD'er, Niccanova, also loves the wet and first up run was a cracker!

The following Race in Sydney, again, it might be too soon but can't wait to see Kinane get back to the races. Broke everyone's heart in QLD last time but first up, 1400m at around $5.50 might be worth an each way ticket.

Morphetville you ask? I'll be backing the border hopper Tanker in the 1st race at good odds and in the 5th, liked the way Going Gaga finished off last start and at $10, it'll give you a good run for your money from the inside draw.
