Saturday Racing Preview

Spring is in the air!

Group racing descends on Sydney for the Missile Stakes and the racing, like the temperature, really starts to heat up now. It will be a strange spring carnival this year, presumably no crowds greeting us for the big Melbourne features, doesn't hinder too much in the way of excitement levels.

Maybe it is selective memory, but only a few winners last week. Let's make bank this week, come on let's go.

It's going to be a rain effected track, not sure how bad but it does mean we will have to tread a little carefully with Thursday afternoon predictions. Competitive day of racing has been put together and for me it's all just about one horse in Sydney on Saturday. Race 8, Tailleur. Broke our hearts last start, confident it will go one better this week at the short odds of $2.10.

Outside of that, Sydney is tough, the Missile Stakes producing a good field with many chances, or so the market suggests. I can't believe the price of Melody Belle, who will likely get the track conditions to suit here. $3.90? Overs! Big Overs!

Aurie's Star Day at Flemington and we're going to get the chocolates nice and early in the first race. Backed off the map last start and in my humble opinion, threw the race away. It'll be winning this week, South Pacific. $2.30 is a really nice price. Tasty!

Over to Race 5, backing the class albeit Iconoclasm will have to carry a fair bit of weight with 62kg on his back. $6 makes him a nice each way play for returning jockey Damian Lane.

No bet in the feature of the day, but keeping an eye on Trope, he's got the talent to win this and early money suggests he might have come up alright. I'll wait until Race 8 and back the South Australian, Octane. $3 is short enough for a horse jumping the border into the big smoke but you can't help but not be impressed with how this thing is going. I think the straight will suit, keen here!

Showers forecasted for Friday but expecting us to be on a Good track in Brisbane for a 9 race card. They've thrown up a really tough day of racing to be fair, I've managed to find one at odds and waiting til the very last in the day for the other. Favourite in the last, right? That old theory.

Race 3, Reckless Choice. I can't believe the price on this fella, $15. Freshened after a heavy track run, the two runs prior behind Red Chase read well. Might be going off one early here but should have some residual fitness on his side and some freshness in the legs to sprint well over the 1350m. Should be good speed with Parko going forward and setting a tempo and our boy gets the claim with an in-form apprentice on. I am either missing something here or am I totally wrong! Each way!

Last race of the day in Brisbane, Chris Waller sends around Maddi Rocks who was explosive last start at Ipswich after getting a split in the straight. Defeated Voila that day, another one for Waller that came out and won mid-week. Maddi Rocks at around the $2.45 mark will be winning to cap off the day!

Keep an eye on Niccanova which is a surprise starter this week over 1050m. It's being asked to carry the grandstand and surely it needs more ground, but class might take it a long way here. Maybe something heavy on the place? There's a couple in this that are terribly out of form!

Loyal followers will know I am usually good for a tip in Adelaide. How could I possibly let you guys down? No spoils here, Just Zerene in the first to jump and run and keep going. One at odds you ask? Race 2, Ice Ghost, enormous win first up and comes up $7.50 - juicy!
