We’re back! A couple of winners last week, that’s a bit more like it. Another strong off-season Saturday of racing right around the country and a couple of specials to get stuck right into. Let’s have a look at things.
Racing in Brisbane is at Eagle Farm, a 9-race program on a good track, perfect. Serious wagers for me start on the 4th of the day, a bloke by the name of Waller, Chris Waller, sends up Sydney based Mare, Voila. I think she just is just a class above these, albeit she isn’t a top-line horse. I think she’s just in the group below but has been competitive with horses like Bam’s on Fire, Positive Peace and My Pendant. $8 is a nice price to find out if she’s better than this lot, otherwise I think it is an even bunch. Voila to be winning the 4th race. In the 6th on the day, Tarzan and Fiery Heights must be getting sick of seeing each other and fighting for the lead, I think they’ll set it up for something from the back. Either Guard of Honour or perhaps our old friend, Sharpe Hussler. Disappointing last start but better than that, just needs a bit of cover and then it can rattle off a good 200-250m sprint. Outside of those races, I am looking for value in the 8th race, Steven O’Dea trained Tamarack which was good last start and now comes here 4th up. $14 is a nice each way bet and in the feature of the day, the Bright Shadow, Love You Lucy keeps winning and keeps going up double figure odds, surely it has a good chance yet again?
Sydney racing is at Randwick, on Thursday the track was rated a Heavy 9, fine conditions probably puts into the soft range by raceday? Strong card of racing with my first interest in Race 3, the Godolphin team saddling up Tailleur. 1 from 1 is the scoreboard for it and a recent trial win over stablemate, Roheryn, which came out and won last week. $2.40, looks a good price, keen on its chances.
Tailleur has trialled impressively. Source: NSW Racing.
Outside of that, I am finding it a very tough day to find a winner, one thing is for sure, I could not back short priced favourite, Lashes, in Race 5 at the current odds. Not a chance, I am going to have a shot at the stumps with the top weight, Akasaki in that race. Tough day in Sydney, wide in the quaddie for sure!
Racing in Melbourne returns to headquarters for the final of the Winter Championships series and the Banjo Paterson Final for the stayers. Confident here on a couple, Soft track currently and lingering showers means we will probably stay that way. Let’s hope we aren’t threatened by any COVID outbreak, what a shambles it has become in Victoria! Anyways, that aside, kicking the day off with a winner in Race 2, Chapada. Run down late by Lord Belvedere last time out but exposed out in front and was a sitting shot, little pull in the weights and I think the result will be different, keen on Chapada.
Race 4, similar story, staying race, short priced favourite, Persan. Has to carry the weight, but just can not find anything that will beat it. Give it strength! Race 5, great race down the straight, I am backing Rich Charm, absolute horror show last start and think it can turn the tables this time around. In the Winter Championships Final, I was quite taken by the run of Never Again last start. D Oliver and barrier 4 puts it right in this race and at double figure odds, I’ll be backing it to get the chocolates. Keen in Melbourne!
There’s some winners in all of that, best of the weekend you ask? Keen on Chapada this week and like the Godolphin horse, Tailleur, in Sydney. Good luck, good punting and as always, gamble responsibly.
