The racing is really heating up - some exciting horses step out this week and we get the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes.
Cracking weekend last week - love a bit of momentum!
Lots of intrigue in the Sydney card on the weekend.
Written Beauty ($1.35) will be a good watch in Race 3 and then one of our favourite's April Rain ($2.05) gets a chance to run in Saturday grade in Race 4 - just concerned about the barrier for her so will just watch her go round. The other ones of interest are Profiteer @ $1.75 and North Pacific @ $2.20. Heaps of short prices but aside from Written Beauty, I think you can find some reasons why they might be vulnerable.
My first and only bet in Sydney will be the proven galloper, Ole Kirk. If it were 1400m, it would be a good thing, but happy to back it @ $2.40 over 1200m first up here. Missed last week due to the wet track, but think he'll be ready to go here on Saturday. On their individual ratings and at set weights, Ole Kirk should win this by panels - doesn't always work like that but keen on this bloke to get the job done!
Watch out for Randwick on the weekend, shapes up to be a bit of a death trap!
Our best bet of the day comes up in the 5th @ Caulfield, really keen on this girl - you can read about that here.
Righto, the C.F. Orr Stakes - the big one of the day. 1400m doesn't look like it'll suit Sir Dragonet ($2.90) based on the form guide, in fact he's never contested a race less than 2000m. This bloke of course won the Cox Plate and then ran a gallant 6th in the Melbourne Cup, there's definitely better to come this prep but I think he might get away with this one as well. Crosshaven might jump and lead and be hard to catch, expecting Bossy to not have Sir Dragonet too far away from the speed and it'll be roaring clear late.
Last race in Melbourne, really like the South Australian visitor Garner here first up. Trialled like an absolute bomb and gets Craig Williams from barrier 2. I think they'll use that barrier, I can see Garner finding the fence and sitting in behind Greyworm. I think Willo will be swinging off him and produce off the leader's back in the straight and go bang. $6.50 is a nice price for a good horse.
Racing back at the controversial Eagle Farm circuit for Saturday racing. I'm happy to bet here, some people aren't, some trainers aren't happy to run their horses either.
First bet comes up in the 4th race with Star of Michelin backing up after last week. Sheridan Tomlinson seems to hold the key to this horse and I think with limited tempo in the race, this bloke will go forward with no weight and make his own luck. Spectroscope might go hard in front again like last week, don't mind if he does, Star of Michelin can either sit just off him and be hard to run down in the straight. $5.50 looks generous!
Race 6 in Brisbane, sticking the Waller trained Baller. Hasn't been too kind to us on the punt this prep but has run some nice races and Eagle Farm should suit. Not the biggest bet of my life, but a bit each way @ around $6.
A good weekend of racing - interested to see how the Sydney card plays out in particular with all those short priced favourites! There will be a heap of multis going on!
Good luck & gamble responsibly.
