Reds not Wright
Shit house news out of Ballymore today with skipper Liam Wright expected to be sidelined for 10 weeks with an ankle injury.
Not ideal - obviously.
Fraser McReight and Harry Wilson will be looking for a new amigo in the back row with Wright likely to miss all the Super Rugby AU season you'd think.
The obvious choice is Angus Scott-Young.
Tough & uncompromising.
Or perhaps they might move Lukhan Salakaia-Loto to the #6 jersey and back two of the young fellas as the locks.
Who knows - the problem with that theory is that Salakaia-Loto is out for a couple of games at the front end of the season due to his suspension he received from the Wallabies last test.
Speaking of those young locks - it was good to see Ryan Smith debut for the Reds on Friday night in the trial game against the Waratahs.
A great advertisement for the Queensland Premier Rugby platform, Smith played in Colts 3 down @ Brothers in his first year in club football.
Just let that sink in, Colts 3!
You would have hated to have been the poor bloke who's potentially hungover on a Saturday morning, rocking up @ 8:30am and having to tackle Smith - no thanks.
If you missed the Reds trial game the other night - here it is.
Wright's injury gives these young blokes and an opportunity to grab a jersey and make the most of it.
The next question, who captains?
The obvious choice is James O'Connor.
If not JOC, perhaps it might be someone like BPA, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, maybe Tate McDermott or perhaps Fraser McReight - who previously captained the Australian Under 20's side and has been touted as a potential future leader for the Reds.
Either way - they've got some nice options.
12 days til Round 1 against the Waratahs @ Suncorp - I can't wait.
