NRL Review - Drama, drama, drama!

How about that weekend of rugby league? More storylines and plot twists than anything you'd see on Netflix. Let's have a look at it.

As widely reported, the Thursday Night match between the Storm and Roosters was perhaps one of the best games of footy you're ever likely to see. The last 10 minutes of regular time really got the heart pumping, then, in golden point, the Storm got the penalty right in front and the rest is history. I think it's worth mentioning that referee Ashley Klein got it right and should be praised for his handling of that match. Brilliant.

Can you believe I actually tipped the Cowboys? They never got warm against the Eels who were far too good. 38-point win and more headaches for the North Queensland side who are struggling for consistency. Speaking of struggling, the Raiders beat the Dragons but jeez it wasn't as impressive as you'd like, was it? I tipped the Raiders for the Premiership this year, I'm getting nervous and they've got a big match against the Storm this weekend.

The Sharks thumped the Titans, I thought it would be a bit tighter but the Gold Coast side was weak at best, another side needing to find some answers, I think they can provide nuisance factor at the back end of the year but they'd want to be showing a little more than what they did on Saturday afternoon. What more can be said about the Broncos? I mean seriously, at least they weren't laughing and cartwheeling after the match this week but they got beat by a side that doesn't even want to be in the country and was missing Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Kodi Nikorima, who got knocked into next week in the early part of the first half. Brisbane take on the Bulldogs this week, if there's ever been two form teams playing against each other, than this might be it...? The other Saturday Night game was a belter, Panthers again showing their class to get passed the Tigers who have plenty of fight in them. You just watch the Joseph Leilua thing and think, what a moron. I heard he was getting 4-6 weeks, not enough, should be closer to 8-10. Panthers flying high, just 1 point off the table topping Eels.

What about the drama in the Manly & Knights match. Referee Grant Atkins labelled a retard, with an adjective before it, by Addin Fonua-Blake. Bit harsh. Maybe it was a penalty for a late push but the video referee was left to adjudicate on that, not Atkins. A good tight game this one between two good teams. Manly two losses on the trot but get the Dragons this week who, admittedly, weren't too bad against the Raiders but you'd think Manly would be able to turn their form around. The other match, the Bulldogs again in the Sunday Night slot and again, albeit showing a bit of ticker, were outclassed by the Bunnies. South Sydney are doing a good job of beating teams lower than them on the ladder, which is okay, wins a win, but I want to see them really take down some of these Top 4 sides when they get the opportunity. I don't think they're far away from being really competitive, I think they need their forwards playing quicker, finding their front and winning the wrestle so that Damien Cook can go to work in behind. I am sure Wayne Bennett knows how to coach however, I'll leave it with him.

So, Broncos vs Bulldogs this week. Wow.
