NRL Recap - Flippin' the bird

Bellyache flipping the bird at Smithy, Ricky Stuart throwing his water bottle out the window and the NRL referees being pretty shit are just some of the story lines from the weekend of rugby league.

How about Canterbury! Extricating themselves off the bottom of the NRL ladder and giving the Broncos a lovely shot at being crowned wooden spooners in 2020. Canterbury deserved that and in the process of registering their first win in a long while, they virtually ended any thought (that I had at least) that the Rabbitohs might be able to make some noise in October.

They weren't very good, uncle Wayne has some work on his hands.

The mighty Panthers did the right thing by us and covered the line to get our best bet of the weekend home! With that win, Penrith became minor premiers, only beaten once in 2020.

The Eels and Broncos match was a tough watch, Parra might take some confidence out of it but you can't help but feel they won't be troubling the scorers come the business end of the season. For the Broncos? A Thursday night date with the Cowboys to see if they can avoid the dreaded spoon.

Titans thumped Manly, Storm destroyed the Tigers and the Roosters easily accounted for the Sharks. Cronulla halfback Shaun Johnson ruptured his achilles in the 16 point loss.

SBW watch? 48 minutes for 8 hit ups, 107 metres and 20 tackles. Better again this week. Meanwhile, Mitch Aubusson broke the record for most games at the Roosters, Saturday night was his 303rd.

In the nation's capital, the Raiders weren't exactly clinical but grinded out a win against the Warriors. One more week for the men from across the ditch before they can go back to their families and friends.

In the last game of the weekend, the Dragons forgot how to tackle in the first half and let Newcastle run rampant. Jeez that was ugly. The Knights jump back into 6th position and they may well stay there after next week.

So, 1 round left. 1 final round for Darius Boyd in the Broncos colours, among others that are hanging up the boots. Brisbane fans may well rejoice.

The other thing to keep an eye on next week is whether the Eels or Raiders finish in 4th. Eels play the Tigers, Benji's last game at the club and don't forget Chris Lawrence as well. They'll be up for it.

The Raiders, well they play the Sharks, you'd think they'll be winning that. I am going to stick my neck out and say the Raiders will finish in 4th and I'll win a $100 bet with my dickhead mate.

Penrith, Melbourne and the Roosters, who is going to win this thing in 2020?!
