Michael Slater & Usman Khawaja to open for Australia?

Will Pucovski and Joe Burns are expected to be the openers for the Australian Test team for the first test in Adelaide.

Well today, the scorecard looked like this...

Pucovski 1

Burns 4

So with David Warner likely set to miss the first test with that groin injury he picked up last week, we're in need of a new opening partnership.

Would Haydos and Langer be available? We know Langer is, Haydos is probably fishing up in North Queensland.

Outside of that, jeez it would be good to get Michael Slater back. You know he'd at least be good for some quick runs and maybe even a 90-odd.

Slater scored 14 test centuries in his career and was dismissed 9 times in the 90's - nasty!

Maybe Slats could bring Greg Blewett along with him?

Outside of Pucovski and Burns, where do we look?

Marcus Harris is currently at the crease at the time of writing this. He's of course had 9 tests and returned an average of just 24.

Not great.

Cameron Bancroft hasn't really been in-form, we all know his story.

Bancroft's 10 tests have yielded an average of just 26 and obviously a shit load of controversy - I am not sure he's the right guy, despite being one of Langer's favourites.

So it's slim pickings!

What about Usman Khawaja, 44 tests with an average of 40 - he's obviously fallen out of favour with selectors but he might be the right option. He probably prefers to bat 3, but he could open as well.

Usman actually wouldn't be a bad option!

You'd think the selectors will stick with the incumbent in Burns, while Pucovski will probably earn his baggy green cap while Warner is injured.

But Slater and Khawaja, the right and left hand combo - that'd be entertaining at least.
