Schoolboy rugby fans the time has come! Scratch your 3pm meetings and get ready for the final of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious schoolboy rugby competition.
The King’s School, Parramatta (TKS) will face arguably Australia’s greatest rugby school St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill (SJC). Both First XV’s will battle under Joey’s famous Brother Henry Pavilion a field where Wallabies Kurtley Beale, Matt Burke and Ned Hanigan used to tear up before the bright lights of international rugby.
While Joey’s are reigning Premiers the King’s challenge cannot be taken lightly. Australia’s oldest GPS school boasts Wallabies Nick Phipps, Dean Mumm and Stirling Mortlock as former students. King’s have an exciting First XV with future rugby star Will Penisini, an uncompromising NSW Blues State of Origin U18 Centre, lining up.
The AAGPS competition is locked at the top, with King’s and Joey’s approaching a winner takes all game for the Premiership.
St Joseph’s College is coming off a dominant 57-0 win over Newington and are currently undefeated. Joey’s won a tight match between arch rival Riverview scoring in the closing minutes of the game taking the score to 12-7. SJC has a winning culture ingrained into their First XV having defeating Shore 78-7 and Scots 40-29.
The King’s School look to threaten Joey’s achievement of back to back premierships. On the back of an undefeated season so far their First XV have displayed class and passion in victories over Shore 50-19, Newington 29-14, Scots 41-21 and Riverview 43-14.
This battle for schoolboy rugby supremacy is not to be missed!
My tip you ask? I think Joeys will get the job done, they've got such a strong culture and will be hard to beat at home, they've got a fair chance at going back-to-back in the AAGPS Premiership.
