Ipswich 18/11/2020 - Roughie Alert!!
Midweek racing once again heads to Ipswich. Rail out 11m, with the track currently rated a Soft 5. Genuine chance of overnight storms, still expecting the track to hang around a Soft 5. Eight races are scheduled to be run, most of which look to be open races with many chances.
Race 1: Three-Year-Old Handicap (1690m)
Soul Dancer lines up here for the Forster yard. Two back this girl won a Saturday race at Doomben where she sat back off a good tempo and proved too good for them. Then last start, she found herself too far back and in a slower run race. On top of this, I do not believe she handled the Soft 6 conditions on the day. Yes, she is short enough at the $2.80 quote! But, no other horse has form like her. Byrne will have to carry the top weight, but hopefully, with a genuinely run race, this girl can run over the top of them and be too good.
Betting Play: Soul Dancer (1) to win - $2.80 (PlayUp).
Race 4: Class 5 (1200m)1&2 Quinella
A small, but a decent field lines up here. Struggling to split two runners here, that being Boblee and Invincore. Both horses are tough, this showing in there last couple of starts where both have gone down fighting. They both stay around the same weight as their previous runs, and I simply can not split this pair. Invincore will look to get a forward position, while Boblee will look to sit midfield and run home. If I had to, I would choose Invincore, but I will be sticking with the quinella.
Betting Play: Boxed Quinella 1&2.
Race 5: Class 3 Plate (1690m) FF (4) - 3/6/7/8
Divine Diva had been a bookies pal, that was until the last start where she stepped out to the 1666m and was extremely impressive, cruising on by them in what looked to be only second gear. She looks likely to get back here off a solid tempo, and should be too strong! I believe the $1.75 is too short, but I am happy to bank on her and place four more runners in to make a first four. (4) to win, (3/6/7/8) to fill the minor positions.
Betting Play: First 4 (4) to win - (3/6/7/8) to fill minor positions.
Race 7: Class 3 Handicap (1350m)
Willing to have a very small play on a horse here at odds. Polhampton from the Mayfield-Smith yard. This mare choked down on her first start, and as a result had some gear placed on her for her second run in Queensland.
She will need some luck here from the barrier, but from what I saw last start she is fit enough to be winning. She may find a couple better than her, but gee at the $34 and $8 available, she is worthy of a small bet.
For what it is worth…
Queensland 1-12 into Holmes First Tryscorer @$22.50.
