The Nightman cometh

Given this column’s late-to-bed readers, Man Of The Night in the fourth from Doncaster (01:10AEST) could just be an omen bet, but he’s got more going for him than that.

He ran into a wall of horses when finishing well in a trial for this race two weeks ago and hasn’t gone up in the handicap for it. Back on turf, near the bottom of the weights, and with five or six places available, he looks a great each way go at $23 at time of writing.

Second for the day is in sunny Dubai where we’ll all forget about the human rights violations and kidnapped princesses for a day at the races…

Walton Street in the Sheema Classic at 02:10AEST looks the wrong price at $10 having won his last two starts in Dubai and with Godolphin’s number one jockey on board.

Hawkbill won this race two years ago after winning the same prep race and though you can argue this field is better, Walton Street has done it on the Dubai turf three times before so he gets the nod.
