So for those following the fortunes of my Raiders Top 4 bet, let me give you a quick update.
Before the start of the season, before anyone knew anything about COVID-19, before our lives all changed, my dickhead mate and I had a bet.
I was convinced that the Raiders would bounce off their grand final loss and were certainties to make the Top 4. My dickhead mate thought otherwise.
Like all grown men do, we had a wager on it. $100 bucks.
Fast forward 8-9 months, and the Raiders are in 4th position pending the outcome of the Eels vs Tigers match. Put simply, I needed the Tigers to win.
Sadly, early on, the Tigers lost Benji. But that didn't seem to bother them too much, they hammered the Eels right edge defense with a series of attacking raids that led to tries.
But Adam Doueihi, or Adam 'fucking' Doueihi as I was referring to him last night forgot to pack his kicking boots. 1 from 5.
Despite that, the Tigers led by 8 with 15 minutes to play. My $100 was looking pretty good.
Then the Eels rallied with two tries in the last 15 to completely fuck my bet.
28-24 and the two teams only split by the goal kickers, with Mitch Moses getting 4 from 5.
So down $100 to my dickhead mate, as if I didn't hate Parramatta enough?
Fresh off a Sunday of sensational rugby league that bought us two nail biting matches, we are left with just 6 rounds remaining of the 2020 NRL season.
Regular Inside Feed readers will know that I have a $100 bet with a mate of mine that the green machine, the mighty Canberra Raiders would make the Top 4. So will they do it?
Currently tied with the Roosters on points and 2 wins behind the 3rd place Eels. I can't see the Panthers or Storm stumbling all that much, both boasting some great form and active winning streaks. So for mine, there is only two spots left inside the Top 4 which will be either Parramatta, Sydney City & Canberra. At a stretch, the Knights could perhaps enter that conversation as well.
Meanwhile, the Top 8 may now be set, 8th to 9th spot now has two wins between it after Manly's loss in Round 14.
So which team has the better run in for the Top 4 spot?
Firstly, Parramatta. They face the Storm this week, in a blockbuster Thursday night clash, albeit with the Storm missing some of their headline acts, then the Eels play the Bunnies the week after. Beyond that, they take on the table topping Panthers, sandwiched in between games you'd expect them to win against the Warriors and the hapless Broncos. Round 20, it is the Tigers in what could potentially be, albeit unlikely, a match that has implications on the Top 8. How many will Parra get? I'll say 4 out of the 6, the obvious loss is against the Panthers, but I reckon they might drop one elsewhere. Parra to end the season on 30 points.
The Roosters? Absolutely ravaged by injury, they'll get a couple back this week and you'd think Sonny Bill Williams will be only another week away as well. I have no doubt they are still premiership favourites, they may have to come from outside the Top 4 to do it but once the cavalry return, they are going to be a real headache.
The run in looks reasonably tough with teams always 'getting up' for the Chooks. This week it is the Tigers, who are in a must-win situation, the week after they'll get the 2 points against the Broncos. Round 17 & 18 are where the serious stuff will happen for the Chooks, they play the Raiders and then the Knights. Both those games could well decide where we land in terms of my $100 wager. The last two rounds they play the other two teams that will likely fill Top 8 spots, Cronulla and South Sydney in a Round 20 Friday night classic. Tough run for the Chooks, arguably just the one freebie against the Broncos, tipping 3 out of 6 wins and finishing the season on 24 points.
Righto, Sticky Stuart and the mighty Raiders. Didn't click into gear against the Broncos until after half-time before putting on a show. Let's keep a lid on it. This week they travel to Cbus Stadium to take on the Titans, danger game potentially, the Titans were bloody competitive against the Sharks prior to captain Kevin Proctor being sent for a Mike Tyson on Shaun Johnson. If they can get through this week, they get the Bulldogs at home before that clash with the Roosters. Huge game!
Last 3 games are the Dragons, Warriors and Sharks. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself, but I think they can win all 6 on the way home! Perhaps they drop one but they clearly have a much better run so long as they don't get complacent. I'll say 5 out of 6 wins, think they can beat the Roosters in the Round 17 clash, Raiders to finish the season on 28 points.
Do you agree that I am in the driver's seat to win this $100 bet with my dickhead mate? Tell me what you think!
