The busiest guy this week will be Brandon Smith's manager, Stan Martin.
Martin sent an email to 14 NRL clubs on Monday informing them that his client was available from 2022.
The phone will be ringing off the hook.
So, Brandon Smith, he goes by 'Block of Cheese' or 'Hectic Cheese', it seems all his nicknames are all cheese related.
Now that the Storm have said he's free to explore options, where does he land?
Well the most obvious destination is Canterbury.
The Bulldogs have a shitload of money to spend and they're starting to build the foundations right now. Trent Barrett has taken over the reigns, there's talk about Josh Addo-Carr joining - things are looking up!
That said, I am not sure they could afford both Smith and Addo-Carr.
So who's more important?
The Fox is bloody good, there's no doubting that. But perhaps Brandon Smith might be more valuable to them at hooker and both of the Dogs' current 9's come off contract at the end of next year, that's Jeremy Marshall-King & Sione Katoa.
It was reported during the week that there was a club that was interested in Smith that might even be happy to offer a representative forward - if it is the Bulldogs then that'd be Dylan Napa you'd think - big Papa.
Napa is off contract at the end of 2021, so perhaps Canterbury and the Dogs' might be interested in doing a deal prior to 2022 and before the start of next season.
For Napa, he would get a year with Craig Bellamy and a chance to rejuvenate his career after a really indifferent season, which is probably being kind to him.
Good deal for both...?
It's pretty clear that the #9 jersey at the Storm next year will be worn by either the GOAT, Cameron Smith, or if he retires or moves north to say perhaps the Gold Coast, it'll obviously be Harry Grant.
So for the Cheese, all the numbers make sense, the timing makes sense and Brandon Smith just looks a nice fit for the Dogs.
He's crafty, he's tough, he's a premiership winner and he'll put bums on seats. You can picture him in the Bulldogs jersey already.
