Today is September 14. That means there's 16 days left in month, then a further 23 until the weekend of October 24 & 25.
16 + 23 = 39.
That makes us 39 days away from a truly wonderful weekend of sport, you ready for this? Why I am telling you this you ask, because blokes out there who need to get the brownie points up in advance, do it, do it right now. You won't want to talk to your wife or significant other for the best part of 72 hours, nor will you be in a state to do that.
On October 24, AFL fans in Brisbane will 'pack' the Gabba, 30,000 fans at least in this COVID world. Imagine if the home town fans get the chance to cheer on their home town Lions? Perhaps it might be Richmond in there again as well. For the first time as well, it is a night time final, which I like.
We missed something, in fact, we missed a couple of things.
Rewind 1 day, 23rd October in the wee hours of the morning, golf lovers will have the Zozo Championship teeing off, the defending champion? Tiger Woods. You'd expect Tiger to go back and defend his title.
That night, you'll turn your attention to racing, the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley under lights. Maybe a couple of complementary meetings at Canterbury and the Sunshine Coast and we'll build a bank for the weekend. Maybe a few quiet beers? Just a couple to be sociable.
Prior to the AFL on the Saturday, it's the Cox Plate, the weight-for-age championship of Australasia. There might be no Daryl Braithwaite this year, likely no crowds as well, it won't take away too much from the theatre and spectacle of the great race.
A few beers Saturday arvo with the races, but not too many so you're able to make some savvy investment decisions, then a fair few more with the AFL. By the time their giving Dusty Martin the Norm Smith medal we'll be well lubricated and finding the nearest bar.
Sunday 25th October, if we're up early enough, catch some of the golf whilst clearing the throat and getting stuck right into a couple of Beroccas. You need to get the body right.
After that, let the bend continue, maybe a couple of snags on the BBQ, throw some tunes on and get ready for the NRL grand final. What do we reckon, Panthers & Roosters? Don't forget about Bellyache's men I suppose.
The Roosters will win, they'll make it three in a row, maybe Luke Keary gets the Clive Churchill Medal and again, we'll find another bar. No work Monday? Surely the annual leave requests forms have already been submitted.
What a weekend, you wont want to have any distractions, get the brownie points up now and start siphoning funds into your betting account. Preparation is key.
