Day 1 of the Championships

Wowee, huge day of racing.

Main attraction is of course the huge card in Sydney.

Let's rip in and find some winners.

First bet in Race 2 on the day, Dollar for Dollar will probably run favourite but it hasn't won for a couple of years and Simply Optimistic just continues to disappoint. Granted they are dangers but I'll be with Missile Mantra ($4.80) to sprint well fresh here. Mark Zahra will just let her find her feet and probably be last in the run, hopefully Native Soldier injects a fair bit of speed in the race and Missile Mantra can sprint home well. Might get better than $5 I think, see how we go.

Keen on Vegas Knight ($6.50) in Race 8 to lead by 5-6 lengths and just keep on running. Peaks now 4th up from a spell and there's already been a bit of money. I reckon this'll continue to be well backed, just wanting a super positive ride and hopefully Stackhouse has him a couple of lengths clear on the turn.

Alright, the really good stuff.

Derby, Doncaster, TJ Smith - outstanding.

That said, it's a slow start to the day punting wise until we really kick everything into gear and get fired up.

Best bet of the day comes up in Race 6, you can read about that here.

In Race 7, the Derby I am backing Montefilia ($3.50) to beat the boys. Thought the run behind Mo'unga was really good and she'll be peaking now - I get the feeling this was always the target race. $3.50 or thereabouts might be a bit short, I'll be waiting for game day before betting.

The Doncaster Handicap is always a great race but I reckon it's a bit thin this year and I don't normally like backing too many favourites on such a big day but I'll be with Mugatoo ($4.50) here from the good draw and Hugh Bowman on board.

Handles on all conditions and looks an excellent chance here, I can see money coming for this bloke on the day so $4.50 appeals here.

Racing @ Doomben on the weekend is almost too hard.

The track is currently heavy @ time of writing this, but it'll likely dry out and they'll be on a soft track by Saturday.

It's so hard that at the moment there are four horses sharing favouritism in the last race of the day @ around $7.50.

One betting play for me on the day, that'll be in Race 8. I'll be having a two bet strategy, main bet will be on Jadentom ($3.30), the consistent galloper that looks to have a fair class edge on rivals here. The other one I'll have a saver on will be Capital Connection ($16). I'll wait to see which horses get scratched before race time but if some of the speed comes out of the race, I'll be having a little bit more on Capital Connection. Two bets, maybe for every $10 I put on Jadentom, I'll have $2 on Capital Connection. Something like that.

Good luck, good punting & gamble responsibly.
