The Canterbury Bulldogs will beat the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday afternoon. Period. End of conversation.
Oh yeah, they aren't favourite, they're $2.02.
The Bulldogs have played 16 matches this year, they've won just the 2. They even lost to the Broncos in Round 9. Yes, you read that right.
Who have they beaten you ask?
They first won in 2020 against the Dragons in Round 4. That was when Meary MacGregor was just about out the door at St George.
Then in Round 11, they upset the Knights, 18-12. That game was on July 26th.
Since then, they've been fairly competitive with the exception of a 30+ point loss to the Storm. Sadly for Dean Pay, he was shown the door, with the Trent Barrett era beginning next year.
In fact, did you know that in season 2020, they've lost 6 games by less than 6 points and on other occasions, like last Sunday night in Canberra, they've been in the contest but ultimately outclassed.
This week is different, they will win this week.
The Bulldogs know how to fight and they'll sniff an opportunity to get a win on the board. Further, it would only be fair and fitting that the Broncos end up with the wooden spoon after the year they've had.
Granted, the Titans come off a gutsy win against St George, but Gold Coast haven't won back-to-back games this year despite having registered 3 more wins than the Dogs in 2020. Yes, they're the best team in QLD, but that's a low bar.
Last time they met? May 18th, 2019. Bulldogs won, 22-16.
But the stat that really encourages me, the Titans have conceded 25 more points than the Dogs this year and have a fairly poor, which is being kind, record at ANZ Stadium.
On every measure I look at, perhaps outside of number of wins, which admittedly is a fairly important one, the Bulldogs win this game.
3pm Saturday afternoon, normally I wouldn't interrupt the horse racing or local club rugby viewing, but I'll be on the couch with my blue and white scarf on and playing Baha Men on repeat.
