3 in a night for a hooker

Normally that headline wouldn't surprise.

But we're talking about rugby.

Alex Mafi came off the bench and scored a hat-trick of tries.

The end score was Mafi 15, Waratahs 14.

Fair dinkum.

If there was relegation in Super Rugby, the Waratahs would be well and truly goneskis.

The Reds sort of didn't really get out of second gear and handed them a 32-point thumping.

This weekend the Reds travel to Melbourne to take on the Rebels, while the Waratahs face the music again, this time it's the Brumbies @ home.

That'll be nasty.

The Reds vs Brumbies re-match is on a fortnight.

The only thing that'll stop that being an absolute beauty is COVID.

If the Reds can't get 20,000 people to Suncorp Stadium on that night, I'd be mightily surprised.

The Broncos play on the Thursday night so they won't steal any crowds from them, albeit their audience might be diminishing and the Brisbane Lions play on the Saturday afternoon and are in Melbourne so won't be stealing any crowds either.

The rugby product that Stan is putting out is pretty good.

But for the most part the games are so predictable. I am usually shit house at tipping and I don't think I've got one wrong this year.

Bring on the Trans Tasman Super Rugby series, that'll be good fun.

That's when we'll see how good the Reds & Brumbies are.

Do the Tah's get a run in that? Perhaps they get a holiday instead.

Jeez that Reds side is brilliant on their day, they probably didn't have their best 23 last night and they were still miles too good.

Oh and that young fella Kalani Thomas, yep, he's pretty farken good.
